NEWSLETTER FROM ROSEDALE VALLEY DANCE
Dear Parents, Students and Friends:
Welcome to the beginning of an exciting new year and our 29th year operating here in Lacombe!!! Classes begin Monday, September 15, 2024. We will dance until mid-December, then will break for Christmas, after our Christmas recital, which is Monday December 16, 2024. Classes will resume January 6, 2025. Our year-end Recital is on May 23, 2025. Stage Rehearsal for year-end recital is on Thursday May 15, 2025. An up-to-date calendar showing important dates and events will be posted on the bulletin board in the studio.

REGISTRATION FEES: THE REGISTRATION FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT AND RETURNED WITH THE REGISTRATION FEE BY THE FIRST CLASS ($35 PER CHILD WHICH INCLUDES VIDEO LINK FOR YEAR-END RECITAL). ADDITIONAL DANCERS IN THE SAME FAMILY PAY REGISTRATION FEE OF $15. YOU MAY ADD THE COST OF REGISTRATION TO YOUR FIRST PAYMENT FOR CLASS FEES.
CLASS FEES – For payment information, please see the fee schedule posted on the website. Please note that we offer a 10% discount for full payment before
September 30, 2024. We also offer a discount for multiple classes. This means that if one child is taking two classes, the cost for the second class is reduced. This also applies to families with more than one child taking classes. This means that the cost for the second child’s class is reduced. The cost for one class per week is $52 (inc.GST) per month.
Fees for lessons are due in advance (ie the 1st of the month) and the preferred method of payment is by ETransfer to the studio at rosedalevalleydance@gmail.com
You may also pay by cheque payable to ROSEDALE VALLEY SCHOOL OF DANCE. or with cash (as long as cash is in the exact amount and sealed in an envelope with details on the outside).
COSTUMES: A costume deposit of $60 is required for each dance that your child is in. These costumes are for the year-end recital. (We try to reuse previous costumes for the Christmas Recital or we purchase accessories from the Dollar Store to pair with things dancers already have at home.) PLEASE NOTE THAT COSTUME FEES ARE PAYABLE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION. THIS YEAR PLEASE PAY COSTUME FEES TO THE STUDIO BUT PLEASE PAY THEM SEPARATELY (NOT WITH CLASS FEES OR ANY OTHER EXTRAS) AS THE ACCOUNTING IS DONE DIFFERENTLY. The costume materials are purchased by the teachers with the money collected from costume fees paid. You have paid for the costume and so it will be yours to keep! Please note that we try very hard to keep to this to a reasonable budget, which is not easy! If, despite our best efforts, the costume ends up going over budget, you will be billed for the extra. Last year we noticed a significant increase in the cost of costumes and shipping. We received a bill for customs brokerage fees after-the-fact that was a further 25% of the original amount of the costumes! We are looking into Canadian sites but most of their costumes start at $75! Thanks for your understanding as we navigate this problem!
DANCE ATTIRE: Dance is a discipline. All students are expected to dress and conduct themselves appropriately. Please become familiar with what our students are required to wear while attending class. See Dress Policy – on the website. Hair must always be pulled back and out of the eyes. If you need to purchase new shoes, tights or other dancewear, we recommend June’s Fantasy Costumes in Red Deer. (Behind Great Canadian Wholesale on 67th & Taylor, #6, 6200 – 67A Street). Let the ladies know you’re from Rosedale Valley Dance, so they can get you the right dance gear.

PLEASE SEND A WATER BOTTLE WITH YOUR DANCER(S). Just a note that no food or drink (other than water) is permitted in the studio. This includes NO gum chewing!
VIEWING POLICY: Our viewing policy is that parents DO NOT remain in the class. There is a viewing window in the mud room which is always available (for peaking) as long as it doesn’t distract. You are, however, invited to come in for the last 15 minutes of the parent viewing weeks, which will be posted on the calendar.
NOTE: For very young children who find it a problem at first getting acclimatized, or if grandma arrives from out-of-town (for example), please speak to the teacher about making an exception.
LACOMBE & DISTRICT PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL:
After much thought and discussion, we have decided that we will NOT be participating in the Festival this year! The 2nd week in March is just too early to have our year-end dances ready to perform! As teachers we have decided that our priority is “Dance for the FUN of it” and it was stressful for the teachers (and the older dancers) to have their work up on stage before the numbers were polished! We want to make the focus of our performances the Christmas and year-end Recitals with other (optional) performances for our local seniors. Accordingly, I will reach out to some other local places to see if we can perform there! I believe that we should use our talents to bless the lives of others (not to see if we’re better than others) and I love that we can bring joy to Seniors who might not otherwise have access to the FUN that we do!
OPEN HOUSE/SHOE EXCHANGE: Our Open House and Shoe Exchange is always on the Friday before classes begin for the season. This year it is Friday, September 13, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Come see the studio, meet the teachers and perhaps find some good, used shoes. We're looking forward to another great year!
